Lanterna Education and its sister company Lanterna Elite deliver best-in-class tutoring for International Baccalaureate students worldwide. Their global reach, multichannel model, and advanced technology stack place demands on finance that off-the-shelf tools rarely handle.
Fragmented data, handled by hand
To account for sold lesson and voucher packages, Lanterna had to pull data from its own platform, its ecommerce platform, and its payments provider, then track what was ordered, paid for, and consumed so deferred revenue, taxes, and liabilities were booked correctly. With data this fragmented and accounting needs this specific, the team had no real choice but to do it all by hand.
A data crunching exercise that previously took us 3 days to get right is now reduced to a few minutes with the help from Millentic.

Automation, but not at any cost
Lanterna had spent years looking for a fix that would not mean a large upfront bill with no guarantee of a lasting result. One integration vendor wanted a four-figure setup fee and uncapped hourly billing; a custom build meant a long project to specify, develop, test, and maintain. With growth plans and a tech-stack refresh ahead, that spend looked like a sunk cost, so the team kept working manually. Until they found Millentic.
They’ve found a way to liberate us from manual busy work without the need for costly custom code.

A step-by-step partnership
Now Lanterna automates gradually, one process at a time, without over-automating or sinking budget into custom code. Millentic’s data-agnostic, spreadsheet-like approach fits their unique requirements, and Lanterna’s feedback keeps shaping the toolbox.
We couldn’t be happier to work closely with Lanterna to make sense of fragmented transaction data and reduce manual busy work without code.
